Ballot initiatives that fund infrastructure are well received by voters when the winning message is effectively communicated. The general public wins because a tremendous number of new and better jobs are created (30,000 jobs per $1B raised) and because everyone wants new, improved and safer roads.
Lawmakers win because it is their responsibility to fund infrastructure. Instead of being criticized for "raising taxes", lawmakers allow the voters to decide the issue of whether or not to impose this non-permanent, one percent sales tax.
Those in the road building business sector win because revenue and profits dramatically increase in areas where this initiative has been/will be implemented. It is important to note that this is new and additional dedicated public revenue for road building businesses.
The Problem and the Solution:
Every state in our country is struggling with providing enough funding for transportation. The usual public funding sources have "maxed out". That's the bad news.
The good news is ballot initiatives are an under-utilized funding source available and the Transportation Resource Group is focused exclusively on using our expertise and proven strategies to access this new and additional funding for the road building community.
Our record of success is unsurpassed. We have never lost a sales tax ballot initiative and our work has resulted in over $1BILLION in sales tax revenue being raised.
As an example, the Transportation Resource Group’s work has raised in excess of $500 Million for dedicated transportation funding in a very small (and mostly rural) area of the State of Georgia. This example serves as a blueprint for how our plan can raise literally billions of dollars for other states' infrastructure needs.
Our strategies are universally applicable nationwide.
A History of our Successes:
In 2008, we led the effort in passing a permanent sales tax for public safety and transportation infrastructure in Columbus, Georgia. This initiative passed by an overwhelming margin of 61% to 39%. Just four years earlier, under different campaign leadership, the exact same measure failed by a 60% to 40% margin.
How can this incredible turnaround be explained? It's actually quite simple. The losing 2004 campaign utilized the outdated and "traditional" campaign management, marketing, and public relations strategies. Four years later -- we implemented our unique plan -- and the citizens responded in positive fashion.
In 2009, we led the effort to pass an education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for the Muscogee County (Georgia) School District by a comfortable margin of 57% to 43%.
In 2012 -- as noted above -- we led the effort to pass a Regional Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax ("TSPLOST") in a sixteen county area that includes Muscogee County (Columbus, Georgia) and surrounding counties.
